Handcrafted from an antique wax seal from late 1800 England, this wax seal charm features beehives with bees flying all around. The beehive symbolizes a well-governed industry, secrets, steadfastness, and obedience.
In medieval heraldry it was considered a symbol of industry. In modern times, it is used in Freemasonry. In masonic lectures it is explained as a symbol of industry and co-operation, and as cautioning against intellectual laziness, warning that "he that will so demean himself as not to be endeavoring to add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding, may be deemed a drone in the hive of nature, a useless member of society, and unworthy of our protection as Masons."
The fine silver wax seal charms hang from sterling silver French hooks as translucent citrine teardrops dangle freely from the bottom of each charm like drops of honey. These earrings measure just over 1 ¼” from the top of the French hooks to the bottom of the stone. Stone colors and size will vary.
Handcrafted in my studio in Spokane, Washington, each symbolic wax seal item from The Silver Acorn is hand-stamped in reclaimed fine silver or bronze and will be slightly different and uniquely yours.
